Unmasking My Identity: The Journey of Stepping Out of the Booth

Welcome to My World of entrepreneurship and voiceover

What an amazing place to be! This is my first blog, and like every journey, there’s a beginning to the story. Speaking of stories, hi, my name is Raisha Jye, and I am a storyteller. Not the kind your grandma called you out for when you fibbed about not taking an extra cookie, but a storyteller in the truest sense—a voice actor with a flair for bringing words to life.

As an African American female voice actor, I specialize in bringing stories to life. What kind of stories, you ask? Well, that depends on the client's needs. Whether it’s a commercial, explainer video, e-learning program, corporate narration, or even medical narration, my goal is to engage, educate, and evoke the right emotions to the audience. I work from my professional home studio, equipped with a Focusrite Scarlett interface and a soundproof vocal booth, ensuring top-notch audio quality and quick turnaround times.

The purpose of this blog is to share my journey, the ins and outs of the voice-over industry, and what to look for when hiring talent. I’ll also share insights on how to add value as a leader, creative director, and producer, and other details that make this industry both challenging and rewarding.

As you follow along, expect discussions on entrepreneurship, software programs like Adobe Audition and Audacity, and tips on finding the right voice actor for your project. I'll also touch on why quick turnaround is crucial and how the right recording equipment can make all the difference.

Spoiler alert: recording in your bathroom isn’t ideal unless you’re going for that authentic shower concert vibe.

Why voiceover? Check out the “About Me” section on my website for a brief on how my dream started and how I’ve grown over the past several years to make it a reality.

(Hint: it involves a lot of coffee and a stubborn refusal to quit.)

Thank you for joining me on this wild ride! I’m excited to share more about my experiences, challenges, and successes in the world of voice acting. If you’re looking for a voice actor for explainer videos, commercials, or any other type of narration, building a business, managing a team, creating your own home studio, or managing a casting call you’re in the right place.

So, what’s your story?  I’d love to hear it! Leave a comment below, and let’s connect. And don’t forget to check back regularly as I reveal more about my journey and the not-so-secret life of a voice actor. Who knows? You might even learn a thing or two—like the fact that talking to yourself in a padded room can actually be a job.
